UPDATE 04/08/25: After two follow-up scans, we’ve been told she is officially cancer-free. There truly aren’t enough words to express how much the love and support from our friends and community have meant to us during this time. You carried us through the hardest moments. A special thank you to Suginoko School for the incredible care, kindness, and support—there is no better community in Redmond.
On Friday, Hana will have a small procedure to remove her port, marking the final step in her treatment journey.
This has been the most difficult chapter of our lives, but we never faced it alone. We are forever grateful for each and every one of you who stood by us, lifted us up, and supported our family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
UPDATE 03/18/25: We haven’t shared an update in a little while as Hana has been continuing her chemo treatments. We’re so grateful to share some hopeful news—Hana completed her final chemo treatment on March 18, 2026. In the coming weeks, she will have two follow-up scans to confirm that the cancer has been successfully removed. We are staying positive and taking things one step at a time, with so much hope for what’s ahead.
UPDATE 12/25/25:
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hana is in good spirits and grateful for a short break from chemo over the holidays. We want to share how deeply thankful we are for all the love, help, and support you’ve shown us this year. Your kindness truly made a difference for our family, and it has meant more to us than we can put into words. We will always be grateful.
UPDATE 11/19/25:
Hana rang the gong and officially completed her radiation treatment! We’re so grateful for her progress. She’s steadily regaining strength, and we’re hopeful she may be able to return to daycare part-time in January. Chemotherpy will continue into 2026.
UPDATE 11/16/25:
Hana completed her first week of radiation. It was exhausting, but over the weekend she showed glimpses of her old self. We’re grateful for the progress, and she has just three more days of treatment this week.
UPDATE 11/9/25:
Hana is walking and slowly starting to eat again. She’s in great spirits and staying positive — and so are we. She’ll begin radiation on Wednesday, right after Veterans Day, with six sessions remaining. After that, we’ll continue with approximately 20 more weeks of chemotherapy.
UPDATE 11/5/25:
Hana has been discharged from the hospital! She has a long recovery ahead, including relearning to walk after being in bed for 10 days. She’ll begin radiation on Friday, with a total of seven sessions scheduled over the next two weeks.
UPDATE 11/4/25:
Although Hana remains in the hospital, she is recovering well. Today we received wonderful news — her lung biopsy came back negative for cancer! This is a huge win and means we can continue with her current treatment plan, which is much safer than the alternative.
UPDATE 10/30/25:
Hana is recovering well and has been transferred out of the ICU into inpatient care. She will remain under supervision for 4–6 days before being discharged. Thank you all for your continued support.
UPDATE 10/28/25:
Hana underwent an intensive day of treatment and surgery. After nearly 10 hours, her surgeons were pleased with the successful removal of the mass, her affected kidney, and nearby lymph nodes. The biopsy of her lung will take about a week to be analyzed. She is now resting in the ICU.
UPDATE 10/20/25:
Hana’s tumor has decreased significantly in size — a milestone her doctors are celebrating. Her surgery is scheduled for the end of October, during which they will remove the mass, her affected kidney, nearby lymph nodes, and biopsy the small spots in her lungs. We will continue to share updates as we move through this next phase of her treatment.
We appreciate all your support. THANK YOU!

HanaH's Story
In the first week of September 2025, Hana told us her tummy hurt. When we checked, we felt a large lump in her abdomen. We quickly scheduled a pediatrician appointment the next morning and were immediately directed to Seattle Children’s Hospital, where the oncology team admitted her within hours for tests and imaging.
After a biopsy, we received the heartbreaking news that Hana had a Wilms tumor on her kidney, with trace amounts in her lungs—classified as stage 4. A port was placed in her chest so she could begin chemotherapy right away.
Her treatment plan included 7 weeks of chemotherapy to shrink the tumors, followed by a major surgery to remove the tumor—between the size of a grapefruit and a football—along with her kidney. After surgery, she continued with months of chemotherapy and radiation.
While this diagnosis was devastating for our family, we held tightly to hope and focused on her healing every step of the way. Today, we are incredibly grateful to share that Hana has completed her treatment, and her care team is very optimistic about her recovery and long-term prognosis. We are now looking ahead to follow-up scans in the coming weeks to confirm that she is cancer-free.
We are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support we’ve received throughout this journey. Thank you to everyone in the community who showed up for us—including making our yard sale such a success. Your support carried us through the hardest days.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like to connect. Thank you for continuing to keep Hana in your thoughts and for standing with our family through it all.
